How to Unlock Islands and Travel by Boat

When to leave the Heavyweight Fishing starter hub, how boat travel works, Level 10 island hops, and why Aerial Rod Throw reaches spots the minimap hides.

The Hub Is a Tutorial, Not a Home

Unknown Journey ships 10+ islands, each with its own rod shop rows, fish families, and NPC quests. The starter hub is for Iron and Steel savings. Community beginner guides still say the same thing: after the tutorial, grind until around Level 10, then look for the boat / travel point to the next chain. Staying on hub commons after Steel Rod is online is a Cash and XP trap.

There is no in-game map search. Use this wiki’s islands overview and secret locations. The search guide explains why the HUD has no search box.

How You Actually Move

Travel is physical: find the boat or dock prompt, Interact, ride to the next visible island. You do not unlock a world map by paying Robux. Rod weight is the real gate — if every cast on the new shore snaps, go back one island and buy the next rod. Ladder: Starter → Iron (5k) → Steel (25k) → Emerald (100k) → Starwing (HWF) → Ocean Master (500k) → Leviathan (2M).

Aerial Rod Throw (A-tier skill, 35k) extends cast range so you can fish cliff backs and buoys the minimap does not label. Buy it after a cheap reel skill, not before Iron Rod. See the skill build.

What Changes on Later Islands

  • Fish get heavier. Reel red-zone tolerance drops. Read the reel minigame guide.
  • Public sea bosses appear in deeper water. Do not pull them on Steel. Boss guide.
  • Vendors still matter unless you own Sell Anywhere. Sell fish.
  • Secret bosses sit off the default path. Coordinates rot after patches.

Level-up order if you are lost: hub quests → Level 10 boat → mid islands → Ocean Master bosses. XP details: level up fast.

YouTube Will Show You the Wrong Ocean

Fisch, Titan Fishing, and Catch and Tame thumbnails outrank this place. Add place ID 98502499119821. The codes video below is still the right game — redeem, sell, then boat. Do not follow a “secret island” pin from a month-old comment.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I leave the starter island?

Around Level 10, with Iron or Steel online, after hub quests are turned in.

Is there a fast-travel menu?

No world-map unlock. Use boats and docks. Aerial Rod Throw only extends casts, not travel.

Why do I snap every fish on the next island?

Rod weight is too low. Drop back a tier or buy Steel / Emerald before forcing it.

How many islands are there?

Community wikis and the live description point to more than ten, each with unique fish and NPCs.

Do game passes unlock islands?

No. Passes save vendor walks and add skill slots. Islands open by playing.
