What NPCs Do in Heavyweight Fishing
NPCs are interactive characters tied to the game's core systems — selling fish, buying rods and bait, unlocking skills, embedding traits, managing boats, and setting spawns. Knowing where each NPC lives saves you boat trips and lets you push progression faster. Source: Roonby All NPCs Guide (updated 29 August 2026) cross-referenced with BloxRant and in-place verification.
There are currently nine core NPCs plus rotating seasonal merchants (Maoshan Merchant and Taoist Merchant). Core NPCs sit on the hub chain; seasonal merchants rotate between islands and sell unique 700M-Cash-tier items for limited windows.
Complete NPC List and Roles
- Nana — Buys fish. The selling NPC you return to after every load.
- Chu Xin — Sells and spawns Boats. The boat-travel gatekeeper.
- Biao Ge — Sets your spawn point on different Islands. Use it after each island hop.
- Sage Yiju — Sells Fishing Skills. The combat build NPC.
- Quest Giver — Provides daily Easy and Hard Ticket Quests. Tickets feed the summoning banners.
- Nanjang — Embeds Traits into equipped Fishing Skills. Trait Crystals are the cost.
- Ba Chang — Sells Bait. Restock here between long fishing sessions.
- Biao Di — Sells Fishing Rods. The most important NPC for your Power stat.
- Old Jiang — Provides quests. A second quest source beyond the unnamed Quest Giver.
Seasonal merchants include the Maoshan Merchant (rotates every few hours, sells unique orbs and high-tier rods) and the Taoist Merchant (sells Taoist-Orb-locked items). Both are tracked on the live Trello community board.
Where to Find Each NPC
Every named NPC sits on a hub island. Walking the shoreline in a clockwise loop is the fastest way to find them on a new island. The general progression order:
- Starter hub — Nana (sell), Biao Di (rods), Sage Yiju (skills), Ba Chang (bait), Quest Giver, Old Jiang.
- Bamboo / mid islands — Nanjang (trait embedding) appears once your Skill has unlocked.
- Any island — Chu Xin (boats) and Biao Ge (spawn setter) sit near the dock.
- Rotating — Maoshan and Taoist Merchants spawn on a timer. Watch the server banner.
The exact pixel coordinates shift after patches. Use the live Trello board on our Trello roundup for current spawn coordinates.
What to Visit First on a Fresh Account
For a new Heavyweight Fishing player, the priority NPC loop is short:
- Nana — sell every catch. Without this you never afford Iron Rod.
- Ba Chang — keep bait topped so you can farm continuous sessions.
- Biao Di — buy Iron Rod (5k), then Steel Rod (25k) as you save.
- Sage Yiju — once you have 100 Cash, pick up Skyfall Stomp at 100 cost. It is the cheapest skill in the game.
- Quest Giver — daily Ticket quests are the fastest non-code source of summoning currency.
Chu Xin (boats), Biao Ge (spawn setter), and Nanjang (trait embed) matter once you reach mid-game. The Maoshan Merchant is the late-game orb and rod upgrade path — see the Maoshan Merchant locations page.
How NPC Roles Differ From Skills and Codes
NPCs are permanent features. Codes expire, banners summon RNG skills, but NPCs hold the deterministic systems: rod purchase, bait restock, fish sale, boat travel, spawn setting, trait embedding. If a feature feels hidden, it is almost always behind an NPC prompt — walk up and press E (PC) or Interact (mobile).
Pair this with the NPC quests guide and the sell fish page for the full starter loop.
