Catch Families, Not a Pokedex
Unknown Journey does not publish a numbered bestiary. The live place copy and tracker write-ups agree on a few families: common island fish, rare glowing fish, giant sharks and other heavyweights, then sea bosses that play like raids. Cash comes from selling whatever you land — overflow inventory is wasted money. Pair this page with the fish tier list and the cash farming guide.
Rod tier gates weight. A Starter Rod on a shark snap is not “bad luck.” Follow Iron → Steel → Emerald (or Golden Starwing) → Ocean Master → Leviathan on the rods tier list before you blame the bite table.
Where Each Family Lives
Hub commons sit in starter shallows. They teach the reel bar and buy Iron/Steel. Leave once Steel is online.
Rare glowing fish are the mid-game spike. Crystals buy luck boosts that raise their bite rate — see luck boosts. Do not spend every Crystal from August visit codes on day-one boosts you cannot yet land.
Giant sharks and island-edge heavies need Emerald or Golden Starwing plus Aerial Rod Throw for buoys. Sea bosses and secret bosses live on mid/endgame islands and unmarked coves. Gear check: Phoenix Strike Art, Ocean Master or Leviathan, and a calm red-zone record. Details: sea bosses map.
- Sell every full bag — Cash is the rod currency
- Luck boosts help glowing rares, not snapped lines
- Bosses are largest payouts; they are also the easiest to wipe
August 2026 Economy Notes
Codes still pay Tickets, Crystals, and Trait Rerolls more than huge Cash. Convert Tickets into skills that shorten fights, Crystals into luck when your rod can actually hold glowing rares, and UIBUG rerolls onto a keeper rod (Boss Hunter / Deep Sea Pull). Hub commons plus 41KLikes (20k Cash at Level 20) are the only early Cash dump — they will not buy Emerald by themselves.
If a session feels dry, drop one island tier or upgrade the rod. “Unlucky” is usually under-geared water. Walkthroughs: early, mid, endgame.
